Visiting Us

Churches are different and we know what it's like to not know what to expect when visiting a church. So here is some information that will make your visit much more comfortable.

About Us

Bible Truth is dedicated to exalting the Lord Jesus Christ and the salvation plan of the New Testament. Our purpose is twofold. To bring people to Christ's wonderful salvation, and to mature the believer according to the New Testament mandate of bringing us to the full stature of Jesus Christ, spiritually speaking (Eph. 4:11-16). Our history dates back to 1985, when Pastor Larry T. Smith first came to El Campo after being specifically called of the Lord to come here. We are a nondenominational, Spirit-filled, evangelical Christian church. That means that we are governed by our own elders, not an outside organization.

Sunday Mornings

Services begin at 10:00 a.m. and usually end about 12:00 noon. Sunday Morning is family worship service followed by Children's Church for the children 12 years of age and under. The Children's Church is divided into three groups for 2 to 5 year olds, 6 to 8 year olds and 9 to 12 year olds. There is also a nursery for 2 years old and under as well as a nursing room. After prayer and offering, the children are asked to come up front for a quick prayer that they might be blessed in their classes. Bible Truth gives much attention to children and youth.

Our congregation is multicultural and all ages and backgrounds. The ministry team on the platform dresses conservatively, but you'll see people in the pews dressed in all styles -- from jeans to business suits. Bible Truth Church offers lively and exciting worship with a singing team, and lyrics to the songs projected on a large screen for you to follow. We sing contemporary worship songs that you will hear on many Christian radio stations today.

We sing several songs for about 20 minutes, followed by prayer and offering time. We present the opportunity for people to give a financial offering as unto the Lord to support the church. This is a free will offering with no pressure for you to give, but we truly believe those who do give will be blessed of the Lord for doing so.

We have prayer request cards for you to fill out before service and give to an usher. These prayer requests will be read by an elder during time for prayer, and we will agree together with you for the Lord to answer your prayers.

We believe in freedom of worship and the style of worship described in the Bible. Everything you see happen in our services as people worship is found in the Bible, especially the Book of Psalms. During worship, you may see someone so blessed that they may walk out into the aisle and praise God with their hands raised upward. Psalm 98:4 speaks of praising God with a loud noise, and this does happen in our church! According to how great we believe God is, we praise Him, for Psalm 48:1 says "Great is the Lord and greatly to be praised." In short, we allow people to express themselves in worship to God, but nobody is pressured to worship Him a certain way. Feel free to worship Him in your own way. You will not be bored in our church, we promise you! We really do not know what to expect from one service to another! We believe in allowing God to actually direct and influence our worship and to move by His Spirit in whatever way He wants, and we do not limit God as to what He can or cannot do. The Bible teaches us that God inhabits our praises as though they were a spiritual temple in which He dwells (Psalm 22:3), so praise and worship is a very important thing at Bible Truth. You will actually feel God's warm and loving presence in our worship services! Open your heart and worship Him with us!

Believers often come to the front during prayer requests for special needs such as healing. We believe in and practice the laying on of hands for the sick according to Jesus' words in Mark 16:18, and the pastor will call elders to come up and pray with him for those requesting healing. We believe that the gifts of the Spirit listed in 1 Corinthians 12:8-10 are still in operation in the church today. Speaking with other tongues as the Spirit gives the utterance (Acts 2:4) is something for every believer to experience, as well, while we believe in order in the service and proper time for these things (1 Corinthians 14; especially verse 14).

A preacher, usually the Sr. Pastor or Pastor, will preach a message for about one hour with fervor, excitement and anointing from the Lord. These sermons are equally enjoyed by those who know little of the Bible as well as those who hunger for more depth. As our Church name implies, we are very excited about the truths of the Bible. The Bible says that God's Word is above all His name! And we believe the preaching of God's Word is inspired by God and is vital to our peace and happiness throughout our Christian lives.

Wednesday Evenings

Wednesday evening the adults get together for food and fellowship at 7:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. followed by a biblical and practically applied lesson which will help themselves in every day life from 7:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and conclude with prayer.

While the youth go out to the youth building from 7:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. then begin with fellowship with pizza provided and they conclude their gathering with a biblical and practically applied lesson which will help them better themselves in every day lives.

The minister is not usually dressed up as much as on Sunday mornings for service, and people come dressed more casually than on Sundays as well.

God's Word is compared to a solid rock upon which our calling to be Christians is founded like a house, as mentioned by Jesus at the end of the 7th Chapter of the Gospel of Matthew. Without this foundation of understanding the Word of God and living by it, Jesus said that our lives are like houses on sand that fall when troubles in life rise up against us. We strongly believe that true, spiritual believers are the people who attend all services as much as possible and glean from the preached and taught Word. We never know what God wishes to speak to us from service to service, and the ministers who preach and teach pray fervently for the Lord to give them messages to preach that the church needs to hear for that hour. Our bible studies are especially engineered to allow us to grow strong spiritually and become true believers of whom the Lord is proud.

Getting Involved

Getting involved with Bible Truth as a Church Member is about relationships that get beneath the surface. Those kinds of relationship won't come simply by attending worship services. They take time. After service on Sundays many get together for a dinner at a local restaurant. This proves to be a wonderful time for fellowship and getting to know each other.

One way of getting more involved is by attending our Wednesday night food, fellowship and bible study gathering.

Bible Truth also offers Home Bible Studies in the comfort of your own home and the convenience of whatever time is best for you. Sr. Pastor LT Smith made a two-day Home Bible Study that has blessed literally thousands and thousands of new Christians across the continent and in foreign nations! These Bible Studies are two lessons that take only one hour each. We use the Bible alone, with no extra-biblical traditions presented. These studies get straight to the point and show God's plan for every man, woman and child.

Serving others also deepens your own relationship with God and people. We believe every person has a ministry. It may not be preaching, or it may! But there is something for everyone to do in God's Kingdom. The Bible teaches that we all have a work to do for the Lord, and encourage each one to pray and seek what gift God has given to them to do His will in this world. Each of us must make a difference in some way.
